NASA offers flight tickets to Mars

The space agency offers a symbolic travel ticket to those who wish to send their name on a microprocessor to the red planet

NASA offers the public the opportunity to add their name to a microprocessor that the Mars 2020 robot will take on the mission to Mars. The agency described it as “an initial step of the first journey of humanity to another planet.”

The robot called Mars 2020 weighs about a tonne and will be launched at the beginning of July, expecting it to land on the surface of Mars in February 2021. Undoubtedly, the purpose of the exploration is to look for microbial life, study the climate and the geology. Also, to collect samples so that one day they will be brought to Earth.

In the same way, the agency offered a symbolic travel ticket to people who wish to send their name on the microprocessor to the red planet that is about 54 million kilometers from Earth. The ticket can be purchased through the NASA website.

The space agency asserted that: “more than one million names can be written in a single processor the size of a 10 cents coin. The microprocessor will go with the robot under a glass cover. As we prepare for the launch of this historic Martian mission, we want everyone to share this exploration journey.”

The deadline to be included in the trip expires on September 30 when the robot will have completed a third of its journey. Participants who open an account will receive a “ticket” and points as “frequent travelers”.
