WhatsApp works on an alternative profile option

New WhatsApp feature will allow users to show a different photo and name to unknown users

WhatsApp is working on a new privacy option for Android that introduces the ability to set up an alternate profile, with which you will be able to use a secondary profile photo and name to show them to users who do not have access to your primary profile.

The instant messaging platform continues to look for ways to protect users’ privacy, with a view to offering a more secure app experience, in this case, with respect to their personal data.

WhatsApp already has a privacy feature since 2022, with which users can decide who can see their photo, their last connection or their personal information, to choose among all users, only the added contacts, the added contacts except certain selected users or nobody.

In this sense, Meta’s messaging application has started working on a new privacy option, which allows the creation of an alternate profile that will be displayed to users who have restricted access to the main profile. With this option, users will be able to set up a secondary profile by entering an alternate photo and name.

This was confirmed by WaBetaInfo, specialized media after analyzing the update of the beta of WhatsApp for Android 2.23.24.4, which shows that this option in development is designed for those users who have configured access to their profile to a limited number of audiences.

That is, those users who, for example, have configured that only contacts saved in the calendar can see their profile picture, will be able to create this new alternative profile, to show it to users who are not saved among their contacts. This is a measure aimed at protecting personal information.

Specifically, this new alternative profile option has been implemented on the privacy settings page, under the profile photo section. From there, users will be able to enter the new profile picture and the alias.
