Messenger will alert users of possible scams

The messaging application, through machine learning, will indicate people about any potential robbery attempt, among other crimes

Facebook’s messaging app Messenger will notify users when they receive suspicious messages to alert them of possible scam attempts or other potentially harmful actions.

The new security feature of Messenger will point out the messages received from suspicious contacts, and in a pop-up window it will notify of possible impersonations, if it detects, for example, that the account from which the message is sent is very similar to that of another user.

It will also alert about possible scam attempts, through messages requesting payment, or adult content, especially when users are minors, as Engadget collects.

The company uses a machine learning system to detect anomalies, such as a mass delivery of messages in a short period of time, or many requests to minor users. In addition, with the notification it will offer the user options such as blocking or ignoring.

As they explain on TechCrunch, this feature started to be tested on Android in March, and will arrive on iOS next week.
