Ikea invests in sustainability and recycling

The company gives a turn to its business with the incursion in the rental of furniture

The Swedish chain will offer its customers the possibility of renting furniture for a certain period of time and then return it. Subsequently, it will be restored to put it back on the market.

Ikea, dedicated to the sale of furniture and home articles, decided to give a turn to its traditional business model and now opts for the rental of furniture as an alternative to the acquisition.

The first test of the company will be carried out this month in Switzerland with different types of furniture, according to what the company said in an interview.

Torbjörn Lööf, CEO of Inter Ikea said: “We will work with different partners to make this rental model possible. When the term ends, the clients will have the possibility of returning the product and renting another one”.

The company with this initiative seeks to prolong the life cycle of the products, since instead of throwing furniture, they can restore them after being rented and put them on sale again. Undoubtedly, the consortium works towards sustainability and recycling, reducing the environmental impact.
