Electronic commerce represents an economic engine for Venezuela

The Chamber of Electronic Commerce of Venezuela estimates that electronic commerce in the country represents a strong arm to face current challenges

The president of the Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Cavecom-e), Richard Ujueta, has shared his vision about the transformative role of this sector in Venezuela. In his opinion, this modality has given Venezuelans the opportunity to overcome the severe crisis that the country is going through.

They are changing the rules of the game

Ujueta emphasizes that electronic commerce is not only a response to economic difficulties, but also a disruptive element that has demonstrated its ability to reduce the ecological footprint. This is because it allows people to make purchases from the comfort of their homes, avoiding unnecessary trips and streamlining the purchasing process.

In the Venezuelan context, Ujueta highlights that the country has one of the most significant informal electronic commerce markets in the region. However, the president of Cavecom-e hopes that the State implements the essential structures, regulations and tools to formalize electronic commerce in the country. This includes the adoption of e-invoicing and payment buttons as critical components.

The case of mobile payment

Ujueta also emphasizes the innovation generated by the Venezuelan crisis, recalling that mobile payment, a solution that is being applied in several countries, had its roots in Venezuela as a response to economic difficulties.

The president of Cavecom-e emphasizes that electronic commerce is not just a purchasing method, but a complete industry that significantly influences the economy. In some countries, this sector represents up to 28 % of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Ujueta emphasizes the importance of the “door-to-door” method, which involves eight different sectors working to promote electronic commerce in the country.
