China will launch a lighting satellite into space in 2020

The Chinese project aims to improve the lighting of some parts of the country and can set a great innovative precedent

China will launch an artificial lighting or Moon satellite to the space in 2020. The innovation was conceived two years ago and now it became official after considering that there is a technical feasibility to achieve it.

It is an initiative driven with the intention of complementing the natural light of the Moon. The light could be enough to enlight the streets, at least in a certain sector.

Innovation arises as an alternative to the problems to efficiently illuminate some parts of the country. The device will bring light the city of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, one of the most populated cities in the west of the nation.

The equipment will illuminate an area with a diameter of between 10 to 80 kilometers and the power of the light could be up to eight times the brightness of the Moon. However, such lighting can bring inconveniences and in China a debate has been opened about the impacts that could lead to its application.

It has been said that the artificial reflection of sunlight from space could affect biological work on earth and astronomical observations. For their part, others claim that the light would be similar to the glow of a sunset and that it will also be possible to control the range of splendor.
