Toyota works on its own digital token

The brand has joined the DeCurrent crypto platform to develop a digital asset under the P2P model in the commercial sector

In a statement issued on Monday, the IT division of Toyota Motors Corporation announced a pilot plan in conjunction with the crypto platform DeCurrent to develop its own token.

According to company sources, “The large-scale pilot will involve 2,500 Toyota Systems employees. The platform will feature digital currency payments for benefits.”

The statement notes that employees who participate in this test will have the opportunity to exchange the Toyota token for “benefit points or catalog gifts.” The source cautioned, however, that the digital currency is not exchangeable for Japanese yen.

Toyota has stated that they will work together with the DeCurrent blockchain platform for the development and issuance of their digital currency, based on the P2P model for the commercial and payments sector.

It is important to note that the brand has its own Toyota Blockahin Lab, where it has actively explored the crypto universe and the blockchain. The company has followed in the footsteps of other automakers, such as BMW and Renault.
