Microsoft makes threat notification service available to health centers

The company has been detecting attacks on humanitarian organizations that work for human rights and health care

Microsoft announced that it has made its Microsoft AccountGuard cyber threat notification service available to health care services and humanitarian and human rights organizations worldwide, at no cost.

Corporate cybersecurity teams have detected attacks targeting the healthcare sector in many countries, and have been able to see that they come from criminal organizations in multiple countries, as noted in a statement.

Almost all these attacks, as they explain from the technology company, have in common a malicious ‘phishing’ email from an attacker disguised as a message from a health authority or a supplier of medical equipment or material. These emails contain documents or links that infect a computer and spread the infection across a network, allowing attackers to control the infected network.

Faced with this situation, Microsoft made its alert service free of charge available to organizations in the health sector, such as hospitals, health care centers, clinics, laboratories and medical professionals who provide first-line services, as well as pharmaceutical companies, science of the Health and medical devices.

Microsoft AccountGuard, which was announced in February 2020, when it identifies malicious activity directed at an organization enrolled in the service, Microsoft immediately notifies the attacked organization and helps it take action to stop this attack or to eradicate the attacker.
