Google Maps celebrates 15th years with a new image

The company will also launch new functions for route planning on public vehicle transport and on foot

On the occasion of the 15 years of Google Maps service, the company has updated the logo, with a new image that “reflects the evolution” of the tool for mapping the world. They focused on “the key element” of Google Maps, the tack, as reported in a statement sent to Europa Press.

The change in design also introduces five new easily accessible tabs such as Explore, where users will find information, ratings, reviews and other suggestions from some 200 million places around the world. With Regular Displacements daily trips can be configured to receive updated and real-time information about traffic. In Saved link, the sites stored by users can be grouped  in one place.

There is also the Contribute tab, where users can share their local knowledge, details about roads and addresses, places, reviews and photos of shops. News on the other hand, offers information on fashion stores or places of must-see suggested by experts and local publishers.

New functions to plan routes

Along with the makeover, the company has introduced new features in the Google Maps application that will help users stay informed when traveling by public transport. The “influx predictions” function, which is based on previous trips, to help predict whether the bus, train or subway is very crowded or not, is now complemented by new route data based on user input.

In this way, it includes information on the temperature, the accessibility measures available, if there is a space reserved for women, the security system that has been implemented or the number of cars available – only in Japan –. This functionality will be launched worldwide starting in March and its availability will vary depending on the countries and municipal transport companies, the company says.
