AutoX and Fiat Chrysler create Robotics autonomous car

The partnership is an important step for AutoX, which is developing a complete autonomous driving stack

AutoX, together with Fiat Chrysler, joined the race for autonomous cars. Both partners want to create a fleet of robotic cars for China and other Asian countries. According to AutoX, a fleet of these buses will be available to the public in the Asian country in mid-2020 and passengers will be able to call a robotaxi using a WeChat and other popular applications in the country.

While it is true that AutoX has been operating robotaxi pilots in California and China, its real objective is to license its technology to companies that want to operate their own robotaxi fleets, which means that this partnership is a very important step for the company.

For his part, the CEO of AutoX, Jianxiong Xiao, said the next challenge will be to eliminate the safety controller and leave it really without a driver. “Achieving a completely driverless operation requires a very reliable vehicle platform with full redundancy of the transmission system by vehicle cable.”

He also said that the level of “redundancy is still new and rare in the automotive industry. The Chrysler Pacifica platform has proven reliable for driverless deployment.”

Last year, AutoX announced a partnership with the Swedish holding company and electric vehicle manufacturer NEVS to deploy a robotaxi pilot service in Europe at the end of 2020. It received permission from California regulators to transport passengers in its robotaxis (a human driver is required). AutoX calls its California robotaxi service xTaxi.
