New Beijing airport starts commercial operation

The installation, with five floors and an area of 103 square kilometers with eight operational tracks, has express shipments, a train station and a highway

The new Pequín-Daxing airport, now trneding topic, has started operations this Wednesday after four years of construction, placing itself among the largest terminal in the world. It offers 103 square kilometers and two floors dedicated exclusively to the arrival of passengers, one for domestic flights and another for international, as well as two others for departures.

The foreign airlines that operate from Daxing are: AeroMexico, Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, Aeroflot and KLM, as well as British Airways, with direct flights to London, as well as large Chinese airlines such as China Eastern and China Southern.

In a speech to the press last March, the general director of the project, Li Yianhua, explained that the airport’s radial design facilitates speedy passenger transfer, allowing it to reach any boarding gate “in six minutes” once security controls are passed.

The Chinese authorities expect that by 2025 this airport will be visited by 72 million passengers, hoping that the number will increase to 100 million per day. With a joint investment of 400,000 million yuan, equivalent to 59.6 billion dollars, Daxing becomes the first airport in the world to house a high-speed railway station below its surface.

The new airport, located 45 kilometers to the south of the capital and 67 from Pekin International Airport, is planned to be the center of the economic zone between Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei province (northeast of the country).
