UK GDP accelerates in the first quarter of 2019

According to the data collected between January and March, this indicator showed an acceleration of 0.5%

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the United Kingdom experienced a growth of 0.5% in the first quarter of the year with respect to the three previous months, when the rate of expansion was 0.2%, according to the data published this Friday by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) of the European country.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the British economy grew by 1.8%, compared to the expansion of 1.4% registered in the previous quarter.

The increase observed between January and March is the best data for the United Kingdom since the third quarter of 2017.

The quarterly expansion of the economy of the British archipelago reflected the growth of 1.4% of industrial production, which offset the rise of 0.3% in the services sector, while the construction activity expanded at a rate of 1 % with respect to the previous quarter.

On the other hand, household consumption grew by 0.6% between January and March, while business investment increased by 1.2%, its best reading since the second quarter of 2017.
