Blockchain supports key sectors in Colombia

According to international experts in the BBVA Open Talks forum, blockchain technology seeks to economically support fundamental sectors of Colombian society

Mauricio Toro, president of the Commission for Entrepreneurship of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, said that the chain of blocks, usually used to regulate cryptocurrency operations, seeks to “support five important sectors of the country.”

The sectors that will be supported by the blockchain are health care, economic subsidies for education, land allocation, the distribution of school meals and the validation of academic degrees.

For its part, the representative in Latin America of the Japanese cryptocurrency exchange BitPoint, Stefan Krautwald, explained that this technology can boost other industries in Colombia such as food and pharmaceutical.

Krautwald said: “With the characteristics of the blockchain, 100% traceability can be generated from the origin of production to the final customer. It would generate a lot of confidence for the internal client and the international client.”

With the implementation of blockchain technology in Colombia, which does not have an established regulation, an ordering on the subject becomes worthy. Legislation should be made once there is sufficient knowledge of the scope and uses of the emerging technology.
