Nigerian candidate in favor of blockchain technology

If elected president on February 16th, 2019, the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) candidate Atiku Abubakar, promises to use blockchain technology to boost the economy

The presidential elections in Nigeria will be held on February 16th, 2019. The presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar form the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) promised to adopt the blockchain technology to boost the economy if he wins the race.

Abubakar informed the DailyPost newspaper on November 24th that if he wins the presidential elections he will support the adoption of blockchain technology to make the Nigerian people activate again and work for local development.

The cryptocurrencies will not be out of his range if he is elected president of Nigeria. However, it must be noted that during 2018 in the country there have been inconveniences with digital currencies. In fact, in March the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) issued a warning regarding the use of cryptocurrencies because the transactions are not insured.

Despite this, in mid-October the Nigerian government signed an association with several companies to develop a local blockchain without major consequences.

In any case, the opposition presidential candidate has made clear his intention to accelerate the economy, create jobs and increase Nigeria’s income through blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
