Hacker steals cryptocurrencies with fake websites

An online scammer was running a very lucrative online fraud and phishing business, which seized thousands of victims

The hacker tempts users with offers to generate digital currencies in a simple and fast way to deceive them and install malware that steals information and opens clandestine doors to access data of interest.

The security experts of the antivirus company Doctor Web identified the attacker using various aliases such as Investimer, Mmpower and Hyipblock, determining that his main interest corresponds to the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.

The scams are varied and range from developing websites by posing as a legitimate exchange house for cryptoactives, to making fake online lotteries, renting cryptocurrency mining pools that do not exist, to promising digital currencies to browse their web pages.

It is important to note that the attacker strives to create websites that have a highly professional appearance. One of them even has the trusted seal of McAfee Secure and warns about a secure connection.

The mining pool offers a section of frequently asked questions and an area showing the supposed developers of the service, which are also real people involved in the cryptoeconomy sector.

What all the scams of the subject have in common is the request to download a malicious program that is supposed to help the potential victim to do the work necessary to obtain the digital coins.
