UN Human Rights Office will return to Venezuela

Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela, announced this Tuesday that he will allow the return to the country of the Human Rights office of the United Nations Organization

As part of the visit to Venezuela by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, the president of the Caribbean nation, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Tuesday, April 23, that he is open to the return of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The decision came at the request of the ICC prosecutor, who has met since Monday with the vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, President Nicolás Maduro, and other government representatives.

As you will remember, approximately two months ago Maduro expelled the representatives of the ACHNUD from Venezuela. Now, the Venezuelan president indicates that they must overcome the differences they had, leave the conflict behind.

In this regard, Khan has stated: “I am grateful that you have expressed your commitment at my request to allow the ACHNUD to return to Venezuela and give it effect as soon as possible, I think it is something very positive.”

The date when the office of Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, can be back in Venezuela is unknown.
