Trump accused of conspiracy and obstruction in 2020 elections

The former US president was formally accused of having wanted to reverse the results of the presidential elections of 3 years ago

Donald Trump now faces a very serious charge, being accused of trying to reverse the results of the 2020 elections. This charge represents the most serious legal case the former president, who is currently campaigning to return to the White House, has faced to date.

Special counsel Jack Smith filed a detailed 45-page indictment, in which Trump is being indicted on three counts of conspiracy and one count of obstruction.

The former president, who is considered the favorite for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is facing serious charges including conspiracy to deceive the United States and conspiracy to obstruct official proceedings.

On January 6, 2021, Trump delivered a speech to his supporters near the White House, urging them to “fight like demons” against the presidential election results that would be certified on Capitol Hill.

This speech unleashed a wave of chaos and violence when thousands of his supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, an iconic symbol of American democracy.

The indictment filed contends that “the purpose of the conspiracy was to reverse the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election through willful and false claims of voter fraud.”

It is important to mention that Trump has maintained his claims that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him, without presenting conclusive evidence. Specifically, these elections were won by Democrat Joe Biden, who is also considered his possible rival in the 2024 elections.
