James Story was appointed Ambassador of Venezuela

The hitherto Charge d'Affaires for the country was confirmed for the position by the United States Senate

Diplomat James B. Story was appointed by the United States Senate as the new ambassador to Venezuela, the first in the last 10 years.

Since in 2010, when Venezuela and the United States broke relations, the until then Charge d’Affaires was exercising his functions from the capital of Colombia, Bogotá.

James Story’s nomination as ambassador was confirmed Wednesday in an acclamation vote in the US Senate. For now, he will carry out his work from the Colombian capital.

Story has served as the embassy’s affairs manager, as the diplomat who leads a mission in the absence of an ambassador. His career has taken him to Mexico, Brazil, Mozambique, and Afghanistan. Today, he leads a depleted team in a “virtual” embassy in Bogotá.

President Donald Trump had suggested in May of this year to appoint Story to this position, something that finally comes true after the presidential elections, where Democrat Joe Biden was victorious.
