FBI is working on crimes related to cryptocurrencies

The agency estimates that the cases involve the sale of narcotics and human trafficking with payment in digital currency

There are several criminal cases associated with cryptocurrencies. The FBI has indicated that the list includes kidnappings, human trafficking, drug sales and asset theft. The payment in digital currency allows people to get involved in illegal deals.

During the recent Crypto Evolved conference held in New York, members of the FBI indicated that the list of 130 cryptocurrencies linked to a crime is just the tip of the iceberg, as they consider that there are thousands ongoing investigations.

The US research agency indicated that they are closely monitoring decentralized digital commerce, particularly with regard to capital, drug and human trafficking, as well as kidnappings, cryptojacking and other crimes.

The FBI points out that the dark web is the preferred way for young drug addicts to make their purchases in illegal markets and make payments in cryptocurrencies. Some are difficult to trace due to the anonymity of those involved in the transaction.

However, and paradoxically, the immutability of the data loaded in the platforms based on blockchain technology is an important ally for the research agency, since they allow tracing the transactions and reach the responsibles.
