Generative AI has become indispensable in automation processes. In Peru, according to the Adecco Group, 62 % of the population believes that “this technology can have a positive impact on their workplace.” In fact, many job offers currently require knowledge in generative AI, according to Dr. Wester Zela, dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Business at María Auxiliadora University (UMA).

“According to data from Bumeran, 57 % of Peruvian professionals use artificial intelligence in their daily work, which represents an increase of 8 percentage points compared to 2024.”

With this figure, the country ranks at the top of the ranking, above Argentina and Chile (55 %), Panama (40 %), and Ecuador (39 %), boosting business productivity and “allowing workers to focus their efforts on higher-value activities, thus enhancing their professional development.”

Faced with challenges such as specialized training in AI, technological infrastructure (computer centers), and data management and availability, “UMA is taking on a pioneering role: it is the first university in the country to offer an Artificial Intelligence Engineering degree, integrating AI components into all its degree programs and preparing its students for the technological demands of the future.”

The Peruvian educational institution takes on the challenge of training artificial intelligence experts to develop algorithms and solutions applicable to any sector. The dean of UMA affirms that all the degree programs offered “integrate AI components, because this is one of the fundamental pillars of our university for all professions.”

According to data collected by the IPPR, the most vulnerable would be “women, young people and part-time workers”, whose jobs would be performed through genetative AI.

It would be the worst scenario in the labor market, which Elon Musk has been mentioning since last November, warning that “there will come a point when AI will do everything and there will be no need for jobs… unless it is for our satisfaction.”

For his part, economist Carsten Jung, of the IPPR, has stated that just as generative AI could cause “a major disruption of the labor market,” it could also represent a turning point for millions of workers.

The recommendation is to act now to manage the proper use of this new technology, given the risk it could represent for the 22,000 jobs in all sectors analyzed in the IPPR study.

Bhargav Srinivasa, a researcher at the institute, highlights that jobs such as “text production and editing, data management, graphic design or personal assistance will be seriously affected in this first wave in which we are already.”

In the midst of a high-risk panorama, the best possible scenario points to an empowerment of the workforce thanks, precisely, to the incorporation of generative AI, “but without substantial reductions in employment, it could lead to an increase in GDP of up to 4% annually.” To do this, a plan would be necessary where AI is focused on the generation of new jobs, “with incentives such as tax exemptions, regulatory changes and subsidies for job training with new technology,” they point out from the IPPR.

According to the parent company, WhatsApp users will soon be able to edit the background of photos to add elements of their liking, “change the style or expand the background” using generative AI.

Although they are not really new functions, since Meta had already incorporated them in 2023 to Instagram and Facebook, they still needed to be launched in WhatsApp, which will offer them in the next beta version 2.24.7.13.

According to recently leaked information, “WhatsApp has looked to Adobe Firefly for the background feature, which can generate an image based on relatively simple prompts. The instant messaging application will allow you to reduce or enlarge the background of an image in the style of Canva or Adobe Photoshop with their respective AI editing tools.”

Mark Zuckerberg’s company has indicated that the tools are in the development phase. At the moment, it is known that WhatsApp users will be able to access the new generative AI tools “through a shiny icon that will appear in the menu button at the top. This function will be integrated into the panel along with other editing functions such as rotating, cropping, adding stickers and text, which can be deduced based on the images leaked to TheSpAndroid.”

Generative AI systems, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DALL-E, aim to interpret users’ colloquial commands to generate text, video, audio, or even computer code.

In the specific case of Shopping Muse, users can make plain language requests within the context of an online marketplace, and the AI system will generate personalized recommendations using what Dynamic Yield calls “algorithmic content matching.”

The move has led many members of Meta’s AI division team to take on crucial roles within the company’s generative AI products division, while some have integrated the AI infrastructure team.

Meta’s generative AI division, established in February, primarily aims to develop products capable of generating language and images to emulate their human-created counterparts. This movement arises in the midst of intense competition in the technology industry, where various companies invest heavily in the development of machine learning so as not to be left behind in the race for supremacy in artificial intelligence.

The restructuring comes at a crucial time for Facebook’s parent company as it nears the end of its “year of efficiency,” named by CEO Mark Zuckerberg during an earnings call in February. This phase has been marked by layoffs, team mergers and redistributions in Meta.

AI security has become a prominent priority for major players in this space, especially with increasing attention from regulators and officials on the potential risks associated with this emerging technology. In July, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI joined together to form an industry group dedicated to setting security standards as AI advances.

Despite the dissolution of the AI regulation division, relocated team members within Meta remain committed to the development and responsible use of artificial intelligence. They emphasize continued investment in this crucial area for the technological future.

Cointelegraph has reached out to Meta for more details, but has so far not received a response from the company.

This week, the technology company began the launch of Product Studio, a set of AI tools focused on merchants, so they can personalize the images of their products, as detailed on the Google blog.

Product Studio includes a generative AI tool that helps create a background scene from a text description, and that offers suggestions based on times of the year, such as the Christmas season.

Product Studio is available to small businesses in the United States in Merchant Center Next, the Google app, and YouTube on Shopify.

On the other hand, and also focused on small businesses, the technology company will find a new attribute that will allow them to identify themselves as such in Search and Google Maps. “These new labels will make it easier for buyers to narrow down their searches,” the technology company explains.

Amazon has specialized in artificial intelligence and machine learning for twenty years, technologies that have enabled it to develop services such as the Alexa cloud voice assistant, the Prime Air e-commerce recommendation engine, and Amazon’s computer vision technology Go.

During this time, AWS explained in a statement, it innovated to provide a highly productive and scalable infrastructure for cost-effective ML training and inference, while also launching various services that allow customers to add AI capabilities to existing applications. applications, such as image recognition, prediction, and smart search, through an application programming interface (API) call.

For generative AI, the company applies the same “democratizing approach” and, for this reason, it is now working to take these technologies out of the field of research and experimentation and extend their availability beyond ‘startups’ and large technology companies.

With this objective, it has now launched a series of innovations that, according to what it has indicated, will help its clients to use generative AI in their companies in a “practical and simple” way.
