WhatsApp will allow photo editing with AI

The messaging application WhatsApp announced that the new beta version will include image editing options using generative AI

Meta advances with innovations in the next beta version of WhatsApp that promises functions for editing photos with Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to the parent company, WhatsApp users will soon be able to edit the background of photos to add elements of their liking, “change the style or expand the background” using generative AI.

Although they are not really new functions, since Meta had already incorporated them in 2023 to Instagram and Facebook, they still needed to be launched in WhatsApp, which will offer them in the next beta version 2.24.7.13.

According to recently leaked information, “WhatsApp has looked to Adobe Firefly for the background feature, which can generate an image based on relatively simple prompts. The instant messaging application will allow you to reduce or enlarge the background of an image in the style of Canva or Adobe Photoshop with their respective AI editing tools.”

Mark Zuckerberg’s company has indicated that the tools are in the development phase. At the moment, it is known that WhatsApp users will be able to access the new generative AI tools “through a shiny icon that will appear in the menu button at the top. This function will be integrated into the panel along with other editing functions such as rotating, cropping, adding stickers and text, which can be deduced based on the images leaked to TheSpAndroid.”
