California will include salary ranges in offers

The governor of the state of California, in the United States, signed a law that requires companies with more than 15 employees to include such information

California companies with 15 or more employees will be required to include salary ranges in all job offers, according to a law signed this week by the governor of the state, Gavin Newsom.

It is scheduled to go into effect in May 2023, bringing California into line with US states such as Washington, Colorado and Connecticut that have passed similar pay transparency laws in recent months.

It builds on earlier legislation signed in 2020 that requires businesses with more than 100 employees to submit wage data to the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

“This is a great moment for working California workers, especially women and people of color who have long been affected by systemic inequalities that have left them earning far less than their peers,” said in a statement, senator Monique Limón, author of the bill.

Supporters of the new law pointed to recent studies looking at collected wage data and finding widespread gender and race inequality.
