Theresa May says goodbye to the Conservative Party

Although she will remain as Prime Minister until the election of her successor, Theresa May signed the letter of resignation as leader of the British Conservative Party

On May 24 Theresa May announced her intention to resign from the Conservative Party after almost three years at number 10 Downing Street befor the impossibility of materializing the UK’s exit from the European Union.

The leader sent her letter of resignation to the acting presidents of the so-called 1922 Committee which groups the conservative deputies without portfolio Charles Walker and Cheryl Gillan, the entity informed in an official statement.

The Committee has made an official call to those conservative parliamentarians who want to present their candidacy to succeed Theresa May. The deadline will end next Monday at 16.00 GMT. The list of those who will attend the first phase of the primaries will be announced that day, at the end of the presentation period.

It is worth remembering that up to now there are eleven candidates who have advanced their enthusiasm to participate in this race for the leadership that is expected to culminate in a definitive way the week of July 22.

Undoubtedly, the favorite to succeed Theresa May is former Foreign Minister and former Mayor of London Boris Johnson who has advanced his intention that the United Kingdom leave the European bloc on October 31 with or without agreement with Brussels.
