Artificial intelligence offers broad benefits to the environment

Experts believe that the use of AI will grow in areas such as food production, preservation of nature, distribution of drinking water and much more

The projections on the application of artificial intelligence in the different areas of human life are of continuous growth. Specifically in relation to the preservation of the environment, experts believe that the benefits are countless in the creation of water distribution systems, food production, creation of smart cities, design of predictive programs to control pests, among others.

According to Martha González, director of the artificial intelligence system Watson of IBM Latin America, “in the year 2022 there will be twice as many sensors dedicated to capturing information and the use of data will be increased by artificial intelligence for the benefit of the environment”.

Taking into account that it is a technology based on increasingly sophisticated algorithms, the AI will allow in the future to collect and analyze a greater flow of data related to the needs of the world population. In addition, it will optimize decision making thanks to effective and accurate tools.

IBM is one of the companies that has so far collected more information on crucial issues such as food, pest control, water control and distribution; development of predictive systems on solar radiation, rainfall and winds; forest protection and fire prediction, among others.

Artificial intelligence is currently used to study climate behavior. Undoubtedly, in the near future, scientists will know in advance their effects in the cultivation areas to guide producers in an optimal way in the use and care of the land.

Undoubtedly, the application of AI in the aforementioned sectors will help to create greater awareness of the use of resources, eradication of hunger and inequality in peoples, as well as the effective implementation of plans devised by governments.
