Between the months of March and July, the FBI seized $ 1.7 million in cryptocurrencies, the product of federal fraud

In a recent FBI publication, it was learned that between the months of March and July of this year, the US security agency managed to recover $ 1.7 million in cryptocurrencies.

The FBI has indicated that the seized assets come particularly from cases of violation of federal laws, where “most of the seizures were made in Ethereum (ETH), a figure that amounts to an estimated $ 800,000 seized in said digital currency.”

In a procedure carried out in Virginia, the FBI managed to recover the highest amount in said digital currency, which amounts to $ 473,811. This is also the highest number seized “in a single proceeding”.

Regarding other cryptocurrencies, the agency detailed that they seized $ 147,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) funds, another $ 20,000 in Monero (XMR), “as well as some $ 469,000 in the DAI stablecoin. There were also about eight cases where Tether (USDT) funds were seized, as well as others with altcoins such as Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA), and even a very small amount in Dogecoin (DOGE) token.”

Through the report, it is described that these procedures were carried out not only in funds housed in specialized hardware for the storage of cryptocurrencies, but that “the majority of the seizures were made to the accounts in exchanges that operate locally”.
