Apple surpassed Samsung in equipment sales

Apple managed to overtake rival Samsung, becoming the undisputed leader of smartphone sales for the first time in a single year

In a historic milestone within the fascinating technology universe, Apple managed to surpass rival Samsung, becoming the undisputed leader in smartphone sales for the first time in a single year. This remarkable achievement emerges from the results of IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report.

While it should be noted that IDC warns that its data is preliminary and subject to possible changes, the research agency Canalys also corroborates this milestone by positioning Apple in first place throughout 2023, according to The Verge.

In this context, the Apple company ranks at the top, having marketed a total of 234.6 million phones throughout 2023, experiencing a year-on-year increase of 3.7%. This performance has allowed it to surpass the 226.6 million units sold by Samsung.

Xiaomi, Oppo and Transsion complete the top five sales positions, reaching figures of 145.9 million, 103.1 million and 94.9 million smartphones sold, respectively.

With these revealing figures, Apple now boasts a strong market share of 20.1%, up from 18.8% a year earlier. Meanwhile, the Korean manufacturer has seen its share decrease from 21.7% to 19.4%, according to Bolsa Mania.

This leadership shift represents a monumental achievement for Apple, especially at a time when the company faced demand challenges for its products in early 2024.
