New York students could be taught about cryptocurrencies

The new mayor of the US city, Eric Adams, would be considering the possibility of imparting knowledge about digital assets

Eric Adams, newly elected mayor of New York (United States) is considering the possibility of including teachings about the world of cryptocurrencies in education.

Adams described these types of assets as the “new way to pay for goods and services around the world”, thus considering that schools must prepare students for this new way of acting, hand in hand with blockchain technology and digital assets.

The mayor highlighted how under-informed young voters are regarding the world of cryptocurrencies. “When I was talking about blockchain and bitcoin, the young people on the street stopped and asked me: What is that?.”

The incoming mayor’s political platform includes transforming the city into a cryptocurrency hub. Adams also said in an interview, that he plans to explore the creation of a city cryptocurrency in New York similar to MiamiCoin.

New York would not be the first city in the US to implement a study program that includes cryptocurrencies. In March of this year, the Georgia House of Representatives passed a bill that asks state education officials to implement a financial education program that includes cryptocurrencies in high schools.
