New York approves electricity tariffs for crypto miners

The contract for the activity must be settled with the public company that provides the service

People who are engaged in digital currency mining know that the consumption of electricity by such activity is high. In this regard, the municipal authorities of New York have just approved a specific rate scheme.

John Rhodes, head of the Public Services Department of NY, said that people who engage in crypto mining should negotiate their contracts with the company that provides electric power.

It is important to note that thanks to the abundance of hydroelectric energy north of NY, the rate it is very cheap and this has attracted the criptomineros. In the city of Massena, for example, a residential customer cancels USD $ 0.03 for each kilowatt-hour compared to a residential customer in another location, amounting to almost USD $ 0.13.

Rhodes issued a statement saying that the recently announced measure is aimed at finding a balance in terms of payments for all commercial customers. They look for a fair price for their consumption.

The intention is not to impede the economic development of the city; neither prohibit the mining of cryptocurrencies. On the contrary, they hope to give assistance to current customers and attract new ones but with the application of a fair scheme of electricity tariffs.
