Egildo Luján: Food crisis and low agricultural production have a plan and solutions

“We have perfected and we have a national agrifood plan that solves the shortage, provides dignity to entrepreneurs and farm workers, guarantees security and sustainability to the country, its inhabitants, in this delicate and urgent matter.” Thus begins his conversation Egildo Luján, agronomist and agricultural producer, who chairs the National Agrifood Platform.

Luján updates information in this regard and provides his vision on the present and future of the field and food production.

Vision and proposal for overcoming from the broad opposition space, to feed Venezuelans

The agricultural engineer shares with us in this video-interview, how the National Agrifood Platform has been meeting, joining forces, investigating and proposing for ten years.

Currently the production in Venezuela is only 10 % of the volume that was achieved in 1998.

The president of the National Agrifood Platform, points out that “there is no instant solution … You have to plant, have the inputs, generate conditions and have the appropriate machinery or technology, something that in some cases even involves international financing, which has also been discussed with banks and other multilateral organizations.”

“The national agrifood plan that  is proposed institutionally and in coordination with other forces to a future new government, a governement of transition and change, is supposed to be executed in a process that takes about five years. It constitutes a serious as well as sustainable solution, in the face of the current crisis.”
