IMF and World Bank postpone meeting to 2022

Both organizations had planned to hold their annual meeting for October next year, but due to the coronavirus it will take place later

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank decided to postpone a year, from October 2021 to October 2022, their annual meeting which was to take place in Morocco, due to the Covid-19 pandemic as reported by both agencies this Thursday in a joint statement.

The annual meetings of both institutions are held for two consecutive years in Washington, while the third year they take place in another member country. In 2021, the meeting was to be held in Marrakesh.

In 2020, both the spring meetings, which usually take place in April, and the annual meetings, which take place in October, were held virtually as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At these meetings, authorities from the central banks and governments of the member countries gather, as well as representatives from the private sector, civil society and academia.

In addition, at the beginning of the meetings the IMF presents its biannual perspectives on the development of the global economy.
