LinkedIn has been compromised by the Lauzarus hacker group

The theft mechanism consists of sending an email posing as the company using the phishing method

Users of the social network LinkedIn have been the victim of an attack by a network of criminals who devised a new system to attack users, very different from the one already caused in 2017.

This August 25, the cybersecurity company F-Secure made an entry in its publications section where it warned of a new theft mechanism used by hackers to attack users through the social network LinkedIn.

The attack consists of sending an email posing as a legitimate company offering positions to people with experience in the blockchain area. The email includes an MS Word document entitled “Description of the work of the BlockVerify group”, opening the document triggers the process of infection of the computer.

This method, known as phishing, consists of filtering into the personal network and that of the attacker’s computers in order to gain access to wallets or repositories that can host cryptocurrencies or credentials to access them.

The virus created in 2019 has managed to steal 1.5 billion dollars in cryptocurrencies and other assets through the attackers, only between the years 2016 and 2017; in addition robberies are attributed to him for a total of 600 million dollars.
