Amazon opens its first check-out store called Go Grocery

The store has about 5,000 items for sale in a space of about 1,000 square meters

The renowned American e-commerce company, Amazon, has opened at its hometown in Seattle, the first ATMs-free supermarket called Amazon Go Grocery which has more than 5,000 fresh products for sale and is focused on offering prepared food, snacks and drinks.

Customers can check more than 1,000 square meters, a space that apart from being full of food also contains cameras on the roof and sensors on the shelves to know what each customer takes and go counting the purchase. The product is discounted from the buyer’s Amazon account using the phone app.

Check-out supermarkets and stores

The company’s idea to promote an Amazon Go Grocery is not completely new. The initiative has been circulating in several stores of the brand, deployed in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. The difference of the Seattle’s store with respect to the rest of the 25 is that it is the first time it is done on a large scale, since the store is five times larger than conventional stores.

For his part, Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, said in a statement that the company offers “a mix of organic and conventional products of recognized brands, as well as own and favorite items in the area.”

To enter the store it is essential to identify with the Amazon Go mobile application, thus allowing the security bars to slide down and allow access to the supermarket.
