Despite the weakened economy that Mexico is currently presenting, the North American country has joined forces to strengthen the country’s financial system, despite this, the Ministry of Economy (SE) of the North American country announced on Tuesday that foreign direct investment of 2019 is It stood at 4.2% more than the 31,604.30 million dollars of the previous year.

According to the state secretariat, the increase was concentrated in the areas of reinvestment and new investments. “If you compare the total FDI collected in the year with the preliminary figures reported for the same period of 2018 (31,604.30 million dollars) , there is an increase of 4.2%,” said the SE.

According to the information provided by the source, in 2019 the foreign investment came from 4,353 companies with participation of foreign capital, 3,776 trust contracts and 27 foreign legal entities.

However, that year was marked by the lack of agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada, to approve its new trade agreement, known as T-MEC.

However, at the end of the year an agreement was reached and currently the T-MEC has been ratified by Mexico and the United States. So far it is expected that Canada will do the same in the coming months and the trade agreement will enter into force in the middle of this year. If this happens it could benefit the arrival of foreign investment to Mexico.
