The House of Representatives approves impeachment against Donald Trump

US Democrats in the lower house voted on December 18 the opening of a political trial against Trump over the Ukrainian case

The House of Representatives of the Democratic opposition of the United States made Donald Trump the third president in history to undergo a political trial. The reasons are subject to abuse of power, as Trump asked the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, to investigate his possible electoral rival in 2020, Joe Biden, in addition to blocking the efforts of legislators to investigate their actions.

According to this, president Trump accused the Democratic opposition of trying to interrupt the presidential elections on 2020, following the approval of charges in the House of Representatives to submit him to a political trial. The US president said that the Democrats are “consumed by hatred” ensuring that “trying to cancel the votes of ten million American patriots” is a strategy to “cancel” their electoral victory.

However, it is unlikely that this legal process will cause the impeachment of President Trump, in order for this to happen, the approval of the Senate, which is dominated by the Republicans, is needed.

Testimonies intensify the case

The US ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, presented the most compromising testimony. The Trump-appointed businessman confirmed that the US president had invited Zelenski to the White House in exchange for the announcement of investigations against Biden, according to the “orders” of the Republican president.

But Trump “never told him directly that military aid” was part of the agreement and Sondland admitted that he made “his own deduction” by linking the two cases.
