Nike demands patent to turn its shoes into digital assets

The sports brand Nike said this initiative it intends to tokenize footwear in ethereum blockchain

The American multinational company, Nike, dedicated to the production and development of balls, hunting, clothing, equipment and sports accessories has managed to introduce a patent to tokenize its footwear in the ethereum blockchain network.

According to a request submitted before the United States Patent and Trademark Office on December 10th, the company intends to generate a single registration and create ERC 721 (ethereum) tokens for its products.

According to the statement, the initiative is a “method to automate the generation of cryptographic assets associated with footwear items or digital design files representative of them.”

Hand in hand with blockchain

It is not the first time that the sports brand shows its interest in working together with blockchain technology. Last April, Nike introduced a patent linked to “Cryptokicks”, the difference is that at that time the document did not specify the type of service that the company pursued with the adoption of technology.

However, at this time the new patent seems to throw more clues to Nike’s foray into the world of digital assets. In addition, the company sure that a token could be the digital representation of a shoe or a virtual pet.
