Volkswagen to pay a compensation in Australia
The automaker company will have to issue payments estimated at approximately US $ 940 for the emission of gases in its diesel vehicles
The German automaker Volkswagen announced a principle of agreement to resolve the legal dispute in Australia with customers affected by the scandal of gas emissions in their diesel vehicles.
According to the company, each of the 100,000 Australian customers affected will be compensated with an average amount of US $ 960, which will mean a total outlay of $ 96 million.
The agreement must still be approved by a court, but the German brand expects the five pending lawsuits to be concluded in spring 2020.
Volkswagen also announced that it expects an imminent agreement with the civil action brought against it by the Australian Commission on Competition and Consumption (ACCC). Although the details of the conciliation are confidential until the judicial hearing is held, the proceedings are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The scandal of gas emissions from the company’s diesel vehicles broke out for the first time in September 2015 in the United States. Subsequently, other companies in the group, such as Audi and Porsche, were also involved.
