Brazil will host the UNWTO by 2022

The Brazilian nation has been chosen as the main office of the World Tourism Organization for this year

Brazil was chosen to host the office of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the Americas, according to the South American country. This decision was informed after the debate carried out at the 24th General Assembly, held in Madrid last December.

In this way, the new office will start operating in 2022 and its objectives will be to attract investments to the region, the preparation of studies on the tourism sector in Latin America and the development of a Tourist Support Portal.

According to the Rio de Janeiro country, the arrival of the UNWTO offices is an opportunity to promote the creation and development of startups that deliver products and services for the sector. From this headquarters, Brazil must support the actions and projects developed by the entity around the world.

The election was held after a campaign in which eight countries competed, including Brazil, Argentina and the Dominican Republic. “Finally, the South American country was chosen for its proposal focused on innovation, qualification and promotion of destinations and enhanced.”

The Minister of Tourism and President of the Board of Embratur, Gilson Machado, celebrated the victory of the Brazilian candidacy and stressed that tourism focused on natural territories is “increasingly sought after throughout the world”. In addition, he pointed out that the confirmation of a UNWTO office in Brazil is “a great achievement for this Government and for Brazil.”

For his part, the re-elected Secretary General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, congratulated the Minister of Tourism and the President of Embratur, Carlos Brito, together with “all those who participated in this project”.
