New case of Bitcoin Scam in the United Kingdom

A resident of the island of Jersey was tricked by scammers for months, so in the end he lost all his estimated savings of US $ 1.5 million

A resident of the British island of Jersey, he lost his life savings, estimated at $ 1.5 million, in a bitcoin scam that lasted for a year and a half, according to local press reports.

Investigations indicate that after asking about bitcoin online, the victim was contacted by a criminal organization allegedly originally from Norway, which promised profits fifteen times over the investor savings.

The criminals used commercial names of well-known companies in the United Kingdom to avoid suspicion. According to a spokesperson for the Financial Services Commission of Jersey, “the requests for additional funds were allegedly related to the taxes and fees that were imposed in the foreign jurisdictions where the original funds were sent.”

Unfortunately, the investigative officers of the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom have stated that the funds are unlikely to be recovered.

Likewise, Mike Jones, director of policy and risk of the Financial Services Commission of Jersey, said in a statement that after the criminal act they are warning the islanders “to be more attentive when investing in cryptocurrencies or any investment that seems too good to be true and promise high returns without risk, always get independent advice from a professional and make sure the company you are dealing with is legitimate.”
