New e-bike accepts payments with Lightning Network

Matthias Steinig, a German Bitcoin enthusiast, has invented an electric bicycle that accepts payments through Lightning Network

The bicycle is a fairly common model, with a redesigned electronic conversion kit. Also, it has a Raspberry Pi computer, which is linked to an electronic ink screen to lower the power consumption and lengthen the battery. But the highest consumption is made by the USB modem network card necessary for communication with Lightning Network.

To use the bicycle, the first thing that the user must do is to select on the screen the time that he wishes to drive. There will be generated a request for payment that will appear a QR code on the screen of the bike.

Subsequently, the person will have 60 seconds to scan the code with the Lightning application. Finally, the bike engine will start right after the server confirms the payment.

The creator emphasizes that the main benefit of this system is that it is mobile, the communication is made through the mobile network and the energy comes from the battery of the e-bike. Despite being an excellent idea to expand the use of the Lightning Network platform, it should be noted that the bicycle method is still in the trial period.

On the other hand, Matthias Steinig points out that after the paid time ends, the power supply is interrupted and it gets off. Of course, the person can continue driving, but at the strength of a pedal.
