Internet of Things traces the future of the agricultural industry

The Internet of Things (IoT) along with other technologies can change and improve smart cities. The agricultural industry has decided to implement them to create what will now be called Smart Agriculture

The Internet of Things is associated to other emerging technologies to enhance and improve smart cities. On this occasion they came together to create what will now be known as “Smart Agriculture“.

Smart Cities initiatives offer valuable resources that can contribute to governments, city planners and digital service providers to implement connected solutions.

Among the most representative challenges facing the food and agricultural industry is to answer the question of how to double the production of food by 2050 with less land available each year, since according to the United Nations, the world population for that year will reach 9.6 billion people.

In fact, it represents a challenge for the agricultural industry to feed all this population with quality products. For this purpose, the Internet of Things (IoT) can become a fundamental part of the solution. According to Beecham Research, with the adoption of the Internet of Things, food production could increase by 70%.

Using smart agriculture, employees are able to monitor field conditions from anywhere using their mobile devices. It is evident that this makes agriculture a much more efficient, accurate and profitable activity.

In the same way, using sensors in tractors and in the field, farmers can record data in real time about the condition of the soil, humidity and the amount of sun that plants have received so far. Precisely the analysis of data collected by the sensors gives farmers the information they need to continue feeding the world.
