Facebook launched a smart screen for video calls

The social network announced the launch of "Portal", a screen with artificial intelligence to make video calls, watch videos, listen to music and even make purchases

Facebook has taken a new step in a totally innovative field for them: the sale of devices. They have announced the launch of a smart screen with AI to make video calls, watch videos, listen to music and even make purchases.

Portal, a connected screen that allows video calls to be made thanks to a wide-angle camera equipped with artificial intelligence, is a total discovery for the social network that goes through difficult times.

In the United States, buyers can order in advance these HD displays, created to be installed at home and make video calls without having to stand in front of the cell or hold the smartphone.

Portal was developed in two sizes, 10 and 15 inches, which will be sold in the United States to 199 and 349 dollars, respectively. To activate the screen the user asks him to call one of his contacts, starting with the phrase “Hey Portal”.

There is also an evolution of intelligent speakers that connect with a virtual assistant such as Google Home, Amazon Echo or Homepad. In addition, the device will allow “Alexa“, Amazon’s vocal interface, to talk or shop for some connected appliances.

The integrated AI systems allow the camera to automatically zoom in to include the person who has just arrived or if the face is selected, follow his movements or prioritize the sound of the voice over ambient noises.
