WhatsApp celebrates 10 years in the market

The instant messaging application was created on February 24th, 2009 by Jan Koum

This week the WhatsApp instant messaging application reached its 10th anniversary, with at least 1,500 million users worldwide.

The Annual Social Networks Study of 2018, carried out by IAB Spain, indicated that the application is used to a large extent by millennials.

The application was officially launched on February 24th, 2009, by its creator Jan Koum, an Ukrainian immigrant.

In 2014 it was acquired by the board of the social network Facebook for the modest sum of 21,800 million dollars.

During these ten years it has undergone many changes: in December 2009 it already offered the option of sending photographs; eight months later, the first version for Android was launched and one year later for Windows Phone.

The application has gone through a lot of stages, being one of the most outstanding the possibility of making calls and video calls.
