Huawei and Alibaba focus their attention on Chile

The two firms are studying the possibility of opening a data center in the South American country where they will compete with the giant Amazon

Two important consortia of the technology industry have their eyes on Chile, a South American country with great potential to install a large data center. This is Huawei and Alibaba, potential competitors of Amazon.

The history of this interest goes back to 2016, when the interest of the consortiums in the Chilean market arose. More recently, in 2018, Amazon representatives met with government agencies to assess the situation.

In any case, Huawei and Alibaba are two important players in this regard and seek to expand into Chilean soil with a possible investment millionaire. China is another country that has also been interested in this market.

In fact, Cristián Rodríguez, representative of the public body InvestChile, met in 2018 in China with the vice president of the Alibaba group, Liu Song, to discuss the advantages that the country has for the installation of data centers.

The investment of Huawei and Alibaba is concentrated in “a data center for Latin America, focused mainly on cloud computing services.” In any case, the firm is also evaluating field in Brazil and Argentina and estimate that the final decision will be taken in the second quarter of 2019“.
