Utah to apply blockchain in next primary elections

Utah County will apply the pilot test with Voatz's mobile voting application in August municipal primary elections

Utah County will allow eligible voters to participate in the upcoming municipal primaries through a smartphone application.

That county becomes the third jurisdiction in the United States to partner with Tusk Philanthropies in its national efforts to expand mobile voting, as Virginia and Colorado have done.

The application of blockchain technology is possible through a a collaboration between the Utah County Division of Elections, Voatz, Tusk Philanthropies, and the National Cybersecurity Center.

The pilot plan is aimed primarily at military personnel serving overseas, who normally rely on ballots, which can clearly be a major obstacle to exercising their rights.

For those concerned about voting security, Voatz’s mobile application is backed by military-grade security technology, as well as biometric infrastructure and blockchain, according to an official statement.
