Trump appeals Supreme Court on tax return case
The American president, through his lawyers, appealed to the decision to show his financial statements of the accounting firm
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, appealed to the Supreme Court to revoke a ruling of a court of first instance requiring him to submit the financial records of the accounting firm that keeps the president’s accounts.
Jay Sekulow, one of the attorneys for the president, stressed that “every time a president has asked the Court to review an unprecedented use of the legal process against the person in office, it has been made.”
On the other hand, he indicated that the lawsuit “underlines that the citation violates the US Constitution and, therefore, is not applicable.”
“We hope that the Supreme Court will review this important constitutional case and reverse the dangerous and harmful decision of the appeals court”, he said.
The appeal was filed one day after the Washington Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a new appeal filed by the US president against the requirement that the House of Representatives Supervisory Commission requests the aforementioned financial records.
