This Thursday begins the trial against the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, due to an open case before the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) due to the attacks against the electoral system of electronic ballot boxes, or that could disqualify him for eight years for public office.

The case began in July 2022, “three months before the presidential elections in which he was defeated by the leftist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.”

It is now when the process against Bolsonaro begins, which could leave him out of the 2026 presidential race in Brazil, since he would be disqualified for a period of eight years.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the request is that “Bolsonaro be declared ineligible due to abuse of political power and improper use of the media.” On the other hand, the agency requested “the acquittal of reserve general Walter Braga Netto, former candidate Bolsonaro’s vice president also included in the case.
