The son of banker Juan Carlos Escotet, Juan Carlos Escotet Alviárez, perished in a boating accident when he was in a fishing championship in Miami

Juan Carlos Escotet Alviárez, son of Juan Carlos Escotet, president of Banesco and Abanca, died on Saturday March 12 in Florida, United States, in a boating accident.

The young man, the youngest of the sons of the banker and María Isabel Alviárez, worked as director of Banesco USA, the US division of the bank, based in Miami. His other two brothers work at the firm.

As journalist Angela Oraá shared on her Instagram account, Escotet Jr was in a fishing championship in the Miami keys.

“The bride accidentally fell into the water due to a trip (…) Escotet jumped in to rescue his fiancé. While she managed to get out of the water without consequences, he did not suffer the same fate because of the propeller,” reported Oraá.

The journalist also indicated that the couple would marry in November.

Escotet Sr. is the founder of Banesco and president of Banesco Internacional, which has a presence in Venezuela, Spain, the United States, Panama, Puerto Rico, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, the United Kingdom and France. He is on Forbes’ 2021 Richest List.

He is also president of Abanca, a Spanish bank with a presence in 16 countries, and adviser to the International Visa Advisory Council for Latin America and the Caribbean.
