Putin will participate in the 2024 presidential elections

The current president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, who has been in power for 20 years, confirmed that he will seek a new mandate in the presidential elections that will be in March 2024

Vladimir Putin confirmed on Friday, December 8, that he will seek re-election as president of Russia in the presidential elections set by the Upper House of the Russian Parliament between March 15 and 17, 2024.

Putin would seek a new mandate, as confirmed by Valentina Matviyenko, president of the Senate. The question now arises as to who would face the current Russian president at the polls.

Putin made the announcement at the conclusion of a ceremony marking the Fatherland’s Heroes’ Day, saying: “I understand that now I can’t do anything else. I will present my candidacy in the elections for President of the Russian Federation.”

It is important to clarify that the law initially establishes that a president can serve only two successive terms of four years each. If Putin won the 2024 presidential election, he would be the president with the longest tenure in power, and would remain at the head of the nation until 2030 given that in 2008 a constitutional amendment was made to extend the presidential term to six. years.

After the call for the next elections, the presidential campaign begins, in which Putin apparently has no opponent.
