Prosecutor’s office says the fire at Notre Dame was not a “criminal” act

After the investigations, the authorities of Paris assured that the fact that caused serious damages in the cathedral was not the product of a terrorist attack or something similar

The Office of the Prosecutor of Paris has assured that the experts who have investigated the fire that caused serious damages in the Parisian cathedral of Notre Dame have not detected “any element” that can “prove the hypothesis of a criminal origin of the fire”, reason why prioritizes the thesis of the accident while waiting for future advances.

More than two months after the fire that ravaged Notre Dame on the night of April 15, the prosecution has said that it is impossible for now to “determine the causes.” Thus, he stressed the need to carry out “deeper” research to reach a concrete conclusion, according to a note collected by Franceinfo.

However, researchers have already put on the table “several hypotheses,” including a malfunction of the electrical system or a badly off cigarette, so in principle the experts are inclined to a negligence that for the moment avoid attributing to someone specific.

Notre Dame remains in the meantime closed to the public and, in the interior, are still visible the serious damage caused by fire. On June 15 a small mass was celebrated for a reduced group of assistants, although they had to wear a helmet for security reasons.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, has set a deadline of five years to build the rehabilitation works, although for now the Government has not put figures to the possible costs. The various institutions authorized to collect donations have already received promises estimated in hundreds of millions of euros.
