Peru will request a visa to Venezuelan migrants

Martín Vizcarra, president of Peru, assured that country will require a passport and visa to Venezuelan citizens as of June 15

The Peruvian president reported that starting at 00:00 local time on June 15 it will be a requirement for migrants from Venezuela to have the corresponding humanitarian visa, which will be issued by the consulates of Peru in the country.

The measure of the Peruvian government comes after Interior Minister Carlos Moran pointed to Venezuelans as the reason for the increase in crime rates in some cities, including Lima, the capital.

“We want to ensure orderly and safe migration,” said Vizcarra, whose country handed over to Venezuelans the Temporary Residence Permit, a special document that allows Venezuelan immigrants to work or study in the Inca nation.

The president pointed out the following: “Peru has a long tradition of welcoming humanitarian citizens from other countries but also the obligation to ensure the safety, tranquility and peace of all Peruvians.”

Vizcarra also said that the way to a safe migration includes the expulsions of Venezuelans who have hidden their criminal records to obtain the Temporary Residence Permit.
